Wildcats Drop Elimination Game to Santa Clara, 9-3

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arizona Wildcats (33-26) season ended at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional on Saturday night, falling 9-3 to the Santa Clara Broncos (36-19) in an elimination game.

The Wildcats finished the season with 33 wins, giving them 30+ victories and NCAA Tournament berths twice in two tries under head coach Chip Hale.

Freshman Mason White, a mainstay in the Wildcats lineup this season, produced one of a pair of two-hit games on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. The other came from right fielder Emilio Corona, who also swatted a home run to increase his season total to 11.

Starting pitcher Aiden May worked 4.2 strong innings for the Cats, limiting the Broncos to two earned runs while striking out seven.

In total, the Wildcats pitching staff notched 12 strikeouts of Santa Clara batters on Saturday night. Right-handed relievers Dawson Netz and Derek Drees worked scoreless outings, with the latter racking up a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.
