TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona football running back
Michael Wiley has been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, as announced today by the organization.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honors the nation's best college football player that is originally from Texas. Wiley appeared on the watch list for this award before last season and was named Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention following his career-high 214 rushing yards and three touchdowns against Arizona State during week 13 of the 2022 season. He was named MVP of the Territorial Cup, as he earned the Bob Moran Award for the first time in his collegiate career.
Wiley adds this award to a list of preseason honors that includes the Doak Walker Award Watch List, All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, and Athlon Sports Fourth-Team Offense. He became the first Wildcat to rush for over 700 yards in a season since JJ Taylor (721) in 2019.
The senior from Houston finished the 2022 season with career-highs in rushing yards (771), carries (113), and touchdowns (8).
Arizona opens the 2023 football season at home against Northern Arizona on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. on Pac-12 Network.
THE EARL CAMPBELL TYLER ROSE AWARD
 The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year Division I Texas college.
The voting committee co-chaired by Kirk Bohls, Austin Statesman, and Phil Hicks, Tyler Morning Telegraph, included 47 broadcasters, commentators, and journalists from across the country as well as fans and the previous winners, Bryce Petty (2013), Trevone Boykin (2014), Greg Ward, Jr. (2015), D'Onta Foreman (2016), Baker Mayfield (2017) Kyler Murray (2018), J.K. Dobbins (2019), Kyle Trask (2020), Bailey Zappe (2021), and Max Duggan (2022).
