WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Arizona Gymnastics earned a 196.475 – the program's highest season-opening score – to win Session 1 of the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad. Boise State placed second with a 196.250, Nebraska finished third with a 195.875, and North Carolina came in last place with a 195.150.
The GymCats earned scores of 49.000 and above on every event during the meet. Junior
Alysen Fears won the all-around with a 39.250.
Vault
Arizona earned a 49.00 on vault.
Malia Hargrove led the way for the GymCats with a 9.90 followed by Fears who earned a 9.825. Freshmen
Ainsley Greever and
Abigayle Martin each made their collegiate debuts. Greever posted a 9.775 and Martin scored a 9.75.
Emma Strom earned a 9.75 to round out the rotation.
Uneven Bars
The GymCats posted a 49.050 on bars in the second rotation. Fears and Martin led Arizona with a pair of 9.825s. Three GymCats – Hargrove,
Bailey McCabe, and
Emily Mueller – all posted 9.80s for Arizona to tie Boise State for the lead after two rotations.
Balance Beam
Arizona scored a 49.025 on beam in rotation three.
Caroline Herry paced the GymCats with a 9.875 and Martin followed with a 9.825.
Elena Deets posted a 9.80 while Mueller scored a 9.775 and Fears earned a 9.75.
Floor Exercise
The GymCats closed the meet with a 49.400 to win the meet. Mueller tied her career high with a 9.925 while Hargrove and Herry each earned 9.90s. Fears scored a 9.85 and Deets and Strom each posted 9.825s.
