SEATTLE, Wash. - Esmery Martinez posted a double-double and Kailyn Gilbert scored 18 points, but Washington defeated Arizona 62-60 in Seattle on Friday.
Arizona (10-8, 2-4 Pac-12) shot just 31.3% in the first quarter but began the second period on an 8-3 run with buckets by Martinez, Skylar Jones and Courtney Blakely.
Martinez and Gilbert both moved into double digits in the third quarter, Gilbert scoring 10.
The Wildcats outscored Washington 11-3 in the first four-and-a-half minutes of the fourth quarter to knot up the score at 52 apiece. Gilbert scored the initial six points before Jada Williams drilled a three-pointer and Isis Beh put in a layup off an offensive board.
The game came down to the final seconds, and Washington was able to inbound the ball and take a two-point lead to win the game.
Williams shot 50.0% from the field, scoring nine points and grabbing two steals on the day, and Jones went 3-of-6 to tally seven points with a steal, an assist and a block. Breya Cunningham recorded two blocks on the day.
Arizona outrebounded the Huskies 38-34, and four Wildcats had at least six rebounds. Helena Pueyo and Beh had six apiece, Gilbert gathered seven and Martinez pulled down 12. The Cats outscored Washington in the paint as well as off turnovers and fast breaks.
The Wildcats will travel to Pullman, Wash., to take on Washington State Sunday, Jan. 21 at 1:00 p.m. MST.
