TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona won its home opener with a season-high team score of 196.500 against Sacramento State on Sunday afternoon.
Three gymnast earned career-high scores and the GymCats posted two season-high team scores on bars (49.125), beam (49.125), and tied their season-best on floor with a 49.400.
Vault
Arizona scored a 48.850 on vault in the first rotation.
Malia Hargrove earned a 9.875 to lead Arizona on the event.
Jessica Castles posted a 9.80 in her season debut. A trio of gymnasts –
Alysen Fears,
Ainsley Greever, and
Abigayle Martin – earned 9.725s to round out the event.
Uneven Bars
The GymCats earned a season-high 49.125 on bars in rotation two. Freshman
Sophie Derr posted a career-best 9.90 and Fears scored a 9.85. Hargrove and Mueller each earned a 9.80 and Martin posted a 9.775.
Balance Beam
Arizona posted a season-high 49.125 on beam. Fears tied her career-high of 9.875 and Deets had a 9.85 on beam. Castles posted a 9.825 and Martin followed with a 9.80. Herry earned a 9.775.
Floor Exercise
Arizona earned a 49.400 on floor to secure the win. Fears and Hargrove paced the GymCats with a pair of 9.90s while Mueller and Strom each scored a 9.875. Strom's 9.875 was good for a career-high score. Herry rounded out the rotation with a 9.85.
