Head Football Coach Brent Brennan adds Cullen Carroll as Director, Football Strength and Conditioning

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Football head coach Brent Brennan today announced the addition of Cullen Carroll to the Wildcats staff, he will serve as Director, Football Strength and Conditioning.   
 
Carroll comes to Tucson following one season at San Jose State as the Spartans head coach of football athletic performance, where he oversaw all aspects of the program's student-athlete development efforts. Cullen and his staff centered their approach on injury prevention, athletic performance enhancement, and mental discipline training.

Coach Brennan continued. "Carroll's impact on our program through student-athlete success cannot be understated. We have one of the nation's best in charge of our strength and conditioning and he will do an outstanding job leading our young men." 
 
Carroll's work with the Spartans in 2023 played a key role in the program's six-game win streak that ended in a share of the Mountain West Conference regular season title and an appearance in the 2023 Easy Post Hawai'i Bowl. At SJSU, Carroll was responsible for the comprehensive student-athlete development of the Spartan football program which led to dramatic impacts on player health and availability.

Before his return to his alma mater SJSU, Carroll logged nine years at Stanford in multiple roles, including as the director of football sports performance from 2019-22.   

Stanford's student-athletes thrived under Carroll's guidance, particularly during his four years overseeing the sports performance department. Since 2019, covering four NFL Drafts, Carroll has seen 13 athletes selected by various NFL organizations. Throughout his career, he has helped 35 players hear their names during the NFL Draft, including four first-round selections.  

As an Assistant Football Sports Performance Coach at Stanford from 2014-2016, Carroll contributed to the Cardinal winning a Foster Farms Bowl Championship in 2014, a Pac-12 Conference Championship in 2015, a Rose Bowl Game Championship in 2016, and the Sun Bowl Championship in 2017. Carroll began his time with the Cardinal as an intern in 2014 and was quickly elevated to an assistant football sports performance coach during the 2014 off-season. 

Carroll also previously served as the Sports Performance Coach for both the Stanford men's swimming and men's gymnastics programs while assisting with the wrestling program. The men's swimming program earned back-to-back Pac-12 titles under Carroll's direction in 2016 and 2017. Before coming to Stanford, Carroll assisted with all aspects of football sports performance at Wake Forest University in 2013. 

A native of Petaluma Calif., Carroll holds a master's degree in Kinesiology from San José State University, and a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Willamette University, where he was an All-Northwest Conference linebacker. Carroll began his collegiate coaching career as a student assistant serving as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Willamette football program.  

He is certified SCCC through the CSCCa, CSCS through the NSCA, and is CPR/AED/First Aid certified through the American Heart Association.
