SAN DIEGO – The Arizona Wildcats women's basketball team capped off week one of the 2024-25 season with a decisive 65-54 road victory over UC San Diego at LionTree Arena.
Leading the Wildcats was San Diego native Breya Cunningham, who tallied 16 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. The sophomore set the tone early for Arizona, especially in the paint, where the Wildcats racked up 34 points.
Isis Beh contributed nine points and three rebounds, while Jada Williams anchored the defense with four steals, adding four points and two assists. Paulina Paris also played a key role, leading the team with three assists.
Arizona showed its scoring depth, with all but two Wildcats contributing points. The team shot 42.1% overall, including five three-pointers, and capitalized on UC San Diego's turnovers, converting them into 24 points. This advantage helped secure the game despite a late push by the Tritons.
The Wildcats led by 14 at halftime, extending their lead to as much as 27 points in the third quarter, and controlled the pace with 14 fast break points. Arizona held the lead for all but 10 seconds of the game.
Arizona will return home to face UNLV on November 12, 2024 at 6 p.m. MST, at McKale Center.
