TUCSON, Ariz.– Arizona Women's Basketball improved to 4-0 on the season with a thrilling 75-66 defeat of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Tuesday night in McKale Center.
The Wildcats' win was highlighted by a standout performance from Lauryn Swann, who scored all of her 19 points in the second half. Jada Williams and Breya Cunningham followed closely behind, with 15 and 12 points respectively. Cunningham finished the game just shy of a double-double, taking nine rebounds for the Cats and marking her fourth consecutive game with double-figure scoring.
Skylar Jones also put up a great game for Arizona, totaling nine points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals. The Cats showed dominance in their shooting accuracy, going 53% overall and 52.9% from the arc, compared to UNLV's 39.7% overall shooting. Arizona eclipsed their previous season high of five threes with nine tonight, with Montaya Dew adding two clutch three-pointers to stay perfect from beyond the arc this season.
The game went back and forth, with six lead changes and four ties. The Wildcats entered the fourth quarter trailing 46-50 but scored 29 points in the final 10 minutes to build their nine-point victory. A three-pointer from Williams with 30 seconds left, followed by two consecutive layups from Swann, sealed the victory for Arizona.
The Wildcats handed the Lady Rebels their first loss of the season, with UNLV having earned wins against Loyola Marymount University and Northern Arizona University earlier in the season.
The Cats are headed to Chicago to face Chicago State on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 12:00 p.m. MST.
