TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona swept Pacific (26-24, 25-19, 25-17) in the Super 16 round of the NIVC on Saturday night in McKale Center to extend the Wildcats' win streak to eight matches.
The Wildcats' offense was led by
Jordan Wilson who tallied 11 kills.
Jaelyn Hodge followed with eight kills and
Carlie Cisneros recorded six kills.
Arizona's defense totaled seven blocks and was led by Hodge with four blocks.
Alayna Johnson and
Journey Tucker both recorded three blocks for the Cats.
Arizona took the first set, 26-24. Although the Cats only hit .158, the defense had five blocks to hold the Tigers to a .050 hitting percentage. Arizona had a balanced offense in the opening set with six players recording kills. Wilson led the attack with three kills while Cisneros, Hodge, and Tucker had two kills each. Hodge tallied three of her four total blocks in the first set to help the Cats.
The Wildcats won the second set, 25-19, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Wilson led the offense again with five kills and Arizona totaled four aces to win the set. Hodge and Tucker contributed two kills each. The Wildcats used multiple runs during the set to keep the lead the whole set.
Arizona won the match with a 25-17 win the third set. The Wildcats opened the set with a 6-1 lead and kept control for the rest of the set. Hodge led the offense with four kills and a .500 clip. Cisneros, Wilson, and
Avery Scoggins each tallied three kills to help the Cats hit .323 as a team in the third set.
The Wildcats will host the Great 8 round of the NIVC on Wednesday, November 11. Northern Colorado will face Arkansas State on Wednesday at 3 p.m. MST and Arizona will take on Wyoming at 6 p.m. MST in McKale Center.
