TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Baseball outfielder
Emilio Corona and infielder
Mason White have earned spots on the Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List, the organization announced on Thursday.
The award, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, was open to nominations from all Division I baseball programs in the country. The BBNCSA is based on performance at the plate, academics, and personal integrity. Corona and White represent two of the seven Pac-12 players selected to this year's watch list.
Corona, a senior, earns a spot on the watch list following a tremendously productive junior season in which he hit .336 with 34 runs scored, 13 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, and 44 RBI in just 38 games and 152 at-bats. Eight of his 11 home runs came against Pac-12 Conference competition, against which he posted a .351 batting average. Corona was also one of the Wildcats most productive bats in the postseason, swatting .348 with a .696 slugging percentage in six starts. The California native earned the Golden Spikes Performance of the Week award for his three-home run, eight-RBI performance at Oregon State on April 30 of last year. He became the first Wildcat with a three-HR game in 15 years, while his eight RBI in the game were the most by an Arizona player in 21 years.
White, a sophomore, burst onto the scene with the Wildcats as a true freshman last season, hitting .313 with 50 runs scored, 18 doubles, seven triples, 10 home runs, and 35 RBI en route to earning Freshman All-America honors from
Collegiate Baseball. The Tucson native was one of six Wildcats to notch double-digit home runs last year, believed to be a program record. White led the team and ranked second in the Pac-12 with seven triples, while his 12 doubles against Pac-12 competition tied the Arizona freshman conference record set by previous BBNCSA watch list honoree, Daniel Susac.
Corona and White are back in action for the Wildcats tonight against No. 23 Northeastern in the 2024 season opener. First pitch at Hi Corbett Field is slated for 6:00 p.m. MST. Tickets are still available for all three games this weekend and can be purchased
here.Â
The winner of the BBNCSA will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall at the Fort Worth Club.
