Cats Sweep Pac-12 Weekly Awards

TUCSON - Esmery Martinez has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week and Jada Williams has been named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. The honors mark the first time that Arizona has swept the conference's weekly awards.

Martinez nearly had a triple-double against California with 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while committing no turnovers. The senior additionally had 17 points and nine rebounds in the win at No. 3 Stanford, helping Arizona to its first road sweep of the Bay Area schools since 2001. She scored her 1,500th career points at Stanford and is one of four active players nationally with 1,500 career points and 1,200 career rebounds.

Williams came up clutch for the Wildcats in both games, averaging 20.5 points across the matchups. She scored 14 of her career high-tying 23 points against third-ranked Stanford in the fourth quarter to fuel the game-winning 31-point final quarter. She tallied five assists and five steals between the two games, averaging 37.0 minutes per game of the weekend.

Both Martinez and Williams were crucial in helping the Cats to their first win at Stanford and their first road sweep of the Bay Area schools since 2001. Arizona is on the longest active winning streak in the Pac-12.
