Wildcats Finish Day One of New Mexico Collegiate Classic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Arizona Track & Field completed day one of the two-day New Mexico Collegiate Classic at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Friday. In the most competitive field the Wildcats have faced this indoor season, the team came away with 14 personal bests on the first day of competition. It was also the first time this season that the team has competed in the multis, with Hollan Powers and Emily Psarras both finishing their first pentathlons of the year.
 
FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Zach Landa posted a huge personal best heave in the men's weight throw of 68-6 (20.88m) which was almost two meters greater than his previous best mark. He finished fourth overall in the event and fellow Wildcat Michael Ogbeiwi placed eighth with a PB throw as well. Youssef Koudssi ended in 10th.
 
Emma Gates and Diana Ramos tied for fourth place in the women's high jump after both Wildcats cleared a height of 5-9.25 (1.76m), which is a season best for Gates.
 
Ava Davis was the top finisher for the Wildcats in the women's weight throw, placing seventh overall with a mark of 58-10 (17.93m). Tapenisa Havea posted a big personal best throw in the event as well.
 
In the women's pole vault, Olivia Dillon cleared a personal best height of 12-9 (3.89m). She finished second in the B section of the event.
 
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
Yan Vazquez placed fourth overall in the men's 600m with a time of 1:20.73. In the women's 600m, Keilee Hall ran a personal best time of 1:31.89 to finish fifth overall. Kara Mickelson also clocked a PB time in the event.
 
In the men's 200m invitational, Trayvion White-Austin clocked a time of 21.03 and placed 13th overall. James Onanubosi ran a personal record time of 21.28 as well for the Wildcats. McKenna Watson also clocked a big personal best time in the women's 200m invitational of 23.46, which is now the fastest time in the event on the season for the Wildcats.
 
In the women's 200m, two Wildcats clocked personal bests: Dakota Minor (24.89) and Zana Ryan. Logan Hasher clocked a PB time of 47.58 in the men's 400m. In the women's 400m, Camila Aguilar-Perez was the team's top finisher, finishing with a time of 56.25, which is right around her personal best.
 
MULTIS HIGHLIGHTS
For the first time this indoor season, two Wildcats competed in the women's pentathlon. Hollan Powers finished 11th overall and Emily Psarras placed 13th in the event. Powers had a second-place finish in the 800m and a fifth-place finish in the shot put. Psarras posted personal bests in the high jump, shot put, and 800m.
