FRISCO, Texas — The Arizona Wildcats (4-5) battled No. 25 Dallas Baptist Patriots (9-0) in the opening game of the 2024 Frisco College Baseball Classic, but ultimately fell on a final score of 4-3.
Arizona starting pitcher
Jackson Kent posted a third consecutive strong outing against DBU, going 5.1 innings and allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out seven. The left-hander exited the game in line for the win but did not factor into the decision.
The Wildcats fell behind 2-0 after the first two frames but posted a three-run third to pull in front of the Patriots. Second baseman
Garen Caulfield singled up the middle for Arizona's first run and two pitches later shortstop
Mason White blasted a two-run home run into the lazy river beyond the right field wall to put the Cats on top.
Arizona held their one-run lead until Dallas Baptist broke through for two runs in the top of the eighth.
The Cats bullpen was strong, with four-of-five relievers posting scoreless outings.Â
