TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 21 Arizona won the first game of the series over No. 22 Oregon, 7-5, on Friday night at Hillenbrand Stadium.
The Wildcats recorded nine hits and
Carlie Scupin and
Olivia DiNardo both hit two-run home runs. Scupin went 2-for-3 and
Allie Skaggs went 3-for-4 to tie her season high in hits.
Following a scoreless first two-and-a-half innings, Arizona scored four runs in the third to take the lead over Oregon. Scupin and DiNardo's pair of two-run homers gave the Wildcats the edge.
Oregon responded with a two-run home run in the fourth to bring the game within two runs. In the bottom of the fourth, the Wildcats plated two to extend their lead to four runs.
Regan Shockey singled to score
Tayler Biehl and
Allie Skaggs hit an RBI single to left field to plate Shockey from second base.
Arizona added one more run in the fifth from an RBI groundout from
Jasmine Perezchica to give the Cats a 7-2 lead.
In the sixth, the Ducks hit a three-run home run to bring the game within two runs, but
Aissa Silva was able to hold Oregon scoreless the rest of the game.
Silva earned her 17th win of the season to improve to 17-4. She pitched 5.0 innings in relief for
Brooke Mannon and struck out one Duck but allowed five runs on seven hits. Mannon started the game in the circle and held Oregon to zero runs on zero hits in 2.0 innings.
