Mihalakis, Wildcats Walk Off Cougars, 8-7

TUCSON, Ariz. — For the fifth time in their last eight home games, the Arizona Wildcats (22-14, 11-5) were walk-off winners. A game-winning single from Maddox Mihalakis gave Arizona an 8-7 victory over the Washington State Cougars (18-18, 7-12) on Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.

The Wildcats rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off after surrendering the lead in the top of the inning. Summerhill led off the bottom of the ninth by drawing a hit by pitch, moved to second on a fielder's choice, and came across as the first run of the rally on an RBI groundout from catcher Adonys Guzman. Prior to Guzman's at-bat, a dropped fly ball in center field by WSU extended the inning.

Left fielder Easton Breyfogle kept the rally rolling with a six-pitch walk, setting up a game-tying RBI single through the left side by right fielder Emilio Corona. After getting into a 2-2 count, Mihalakis fouled off three straight pitches before lining the game-winning hit into left field.

Starting pitcher Jackson Kent did not factor into the decision after working yet another quality start, his seventh in 10 starts. The southpaw tossed 6.0 innings and held Washington State to just two runs while striking out five.

Left-handed reliever Jaeden Swanberg (2-1) picked up the final out in the ninth inning, earning him the win following the hitter's heroics in the bottom of the frame.
