SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (34-21) dropped their final game of pool play on a final score of 7-5 to the California Golden Bears (36-18) on Thursday night at Scottsdale Stadium.
Despite the loss, Arizona is still locked in to a semifinal matchup on Friday night, taking on the Stanford Cardinal at 7:00 p.m. MST.
Shortstop
Mason White and designated hitter Maddox Mihakalis both swatted home runs and combined to drive in five runs to lead the Arizona offensive effort. For White it was his team leading 19th long ball of the year, while it was the third of the year for Mihalakis.
Left fielder
Brandon Rogers contributed a pair of spectacular diving catches while ranging to his right in the late innings, continuing his run of strong defensive play.
Southpaw
Eric Orloff (1.0 IP), along with right-handersÂ
Trevor Long (2.0 IP) and
Casey Hintz (1.0 IP) covered the final four innings out of the Wildcats bullpen and held the Golden Bears scoreless.
