Tyler Loop Named to Lou Groza Award Watch List

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona kicker Tyler Loop was named to the preseason Lou Groza Award Watch List for the second consecutive year, as announced today by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

Loop kicked his way to a Lou Groza Award Semifinalist in 2023 after making 19-of-24 field goal attempts (79.2%) last season. He booted a career-long 52-yarder at Colorado and followed that field goal with the game-winning 24-yard kick as time expired to lift the Wildcats to a win in Boulder. Loop has made all 103 extra-point attempts in his collegiate career, marking a program record for consecutive extra-point attempts made.

At one point during the 2023 season, Loop led all field goal kickers all-time in field goal percentage, and he currently is 12th all-time in NCAA history with an 86.0% (49-57)-career field goal percentage.

In 2023, Loop finished third in the Pac-12 in field goals made (19), seventh in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage and was named All-Pac-12 Second-Team Specialist.

Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will announce its 20 semifinalists on Tuesday, November 19th. From this list, a panel of FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers selects the top three finalists for the award, announced on Tuesday, November 26th. That same group then selects the national winner, who will be announced on Thursday, December 12th during the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.

The 33rd Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl, recognizes the three finalists during a celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet on December 9th in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
