Cats Fall at #5 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Arizona Soccer recorded its first loss of the season on Sunday, falling to fifth-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill 2-0.

The Cats (3-1-0) got a look in the fourth minute when Nicole Dallin served a corner kick into play that was knocked to Sami Baytosh by a Tar Heels defender. Baytosh took the shot, but North Carolina was there to block it.

North Carolina's offense was aggressive through the first 30 minutes of play, tallying eight shots, but the Tar Heels were unable to find the back of the net. Olivia Ramey made a trio of impressive saves to stop all of the shots that were on goal. Ramey closed out the day with a career-high nine saves, making five in the first half and four in the second.

Arizona got another look in the 28th minute when Ella Hatteberg sent a cross into the box. Brooke Ahern collected the pass and took a shot, but it was stopped by a Tar Heel defender.

The Tar Heels did not let up offensively, ending the first half with 10 shots and taking aim at the goal 14 times in the second half to bring their match total to 24.

Tessa Dellarose got North Carolina on the board with a shot that went just over the head of Ramey in the 76th minute, and Olivia Thomas added to the Tar Heels' total with a goal in the 88th minute.

Arizona continues its three-match road stretch at Pepperdine Thursday, August. 29 at 3:00 p.m. MST.
