IRVINE, Calif. - Arizona Soccer (4-1-1) wrapped up their weekend on the road this afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the UC Irvine Anteaters (1-4-1).
Wildcat
Nicole Dallin set the tone for Sunday's match, getting a shot off just six minutes after kickoff. Arizona was able to string together several offensive plays in the first half, out-shooting the Anteaters 5-2. The Cats eventually took the lead in the 35th minute with a goal from senior
Gianna Christiansen who, with the help of Dallin, was able to get a look and put the ball in the back of the net.
In the 57th minute, UCI's Emilie Castagna took a shot off of a free kick, where Wildcat goalkeeper
Olivia Ramey saved and rebounded the shot. Irvine's Chifumi Sasaki took a shot off the rebound, sending the ball back into Ramey's arms as she grounded it. The goalkeeper tallied three saves throughout the game.
While UCI attempted to close the gap in shots, Arizona remained dominant on offense, securing two more goals. Christiansen scored the Wildcat's second goal in the 63rd minute with an assist and setup from senior
Marley Chappel. In the 77th minute, freshman
Rose Calkins recorded her first career goal with a cross-field shot from the sideline, upping the score to 3-0.
Arizona will return to Mulcahy Stadium this Thursday for a match against New Mexico State at 7:00 p.m. MST.
