MANHATTAN, Kan. – Arizona women's basketball dropped its first conference road game, falling 62-47 to Kansas State on Thursday night at Bramlage Coliseum.
Despite trailing by as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats showed flashes of resilience, narrowing the deficit to six points late in the third quarter. Kansas State's defensive intensity and sharp shooting ultimately proved too much.
Isis Beh led the Wildcats with 16 points and six rebounds, while Jada Williams added 11 points and four rebounds. Breya Cunningham anchored the defense with a game-high 10 rebounds and held K-State's lead scorer Ayoka Lee to only six points.Â
Kansas State's Serena Sundell paced her team with 16 points and eight assists, and Temira Poindexter added 14 points, including four three-pointers.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Arizona struggled to find its offensive rhythm early, missing its first five shots and falling into an 8-0 hole before getting on the board. The Wildcats shot just 16.7% in the opening frame but stayed within striking distance, trailing 14-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Kansas State pulled away in the second, shooting 69% from the field to take a 36-25 lead into halftime. Arizona responded in the third quarter with a 9-0 run fueled by buckets from Beh and Cunningham, outscoring Kansas State 16-11 in the period. However, the momentum shifted again in the fourth, as Kansas State's defense held Arizona to just six points while extending their lead to secure the win.
