TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona women's basketball team took down the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky, earning its seventh win of the season, 87-83, on Wednesday afternoon inside the McKale Center.
The Wildcats were led offensively by big performances from
Mickayla Perdue and
Noelani Cornfield. Perdue scored 27 points on 5-9 from behind the arc, and Cornfield contributed 22 of her own while also leading the team with eight assists on the day. The only other Wildcat in double-figures was freshman
Daniah Trammell, who scored 11 points.
Defensively, Arizona held Eastern Kentucky to just 38.4% shooting from the field and 29.4% from three. The Wildcats also out-rebounded the Colonels 44-38, led by
Tanyuel Welch, who matched her career-high with 11 rebounds on the day.
Arizona jumped out to a 15-point lead, which was their biggest of the day, behind a 12-point scoring run early in the 3rd period. The Wildcats outscored Eastern Kentucky 40-34 in the paint and 15-4 in bench points, which helped them hold on to the lead late in the game.
Arizona looks to make it two wins in a row at home against Chicago State on Monday, December 15th, at 6 pm MST at the McKale Center. This game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
