TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona women's basketball team took down the Cougars of Chicago State, earning its eighth win of the season, 89-70, on Monday night inside McKale Center.
Offensively, Arizona was led by guard
Mickayla Perdue, who scored 34 points, shooting 4-10 from behind the arc. Two other wildcats were in double figures scoring,
Tanyuel Welch with 18 points and
Noelani Cornfield with 15 points. Cornfield led the Wildcats with seven assists on the night as well. The Wildcats were able to dominate inside, outscoring the Cougars 46-36 in the paint.
Defensively, the Wildcats forced 30 turnovers, led by
Sumayah Sugapong with seven steals on the night and Cornfield with five of her own. Arizona was able to capitalize on its defense, converting 27 points off turnovers.
The Wildcats led 45-33 at the break behind 18 first-half points from Perdue and 12 from Welch. The second half was back-and-forth until the fourth period, when the Wildcats went on an 11-point scoring run, building their lead to 19 to end the game.
