TUCSON, Ariz. — No.1 Arizona remained unbeaten and delivered a dominant performance Tuesday night, rolling past Abilene Christian, 96-62, at McKale Center to improve to 10-0 on the season. It marks the fifth straight win by 20 or more points, the first time Arizona has done that since the first five games of the 2010-11 season.Â
The 10-game winning streak is the second-longest for the Wildcats since Tommy Lloyd took over as head coach prior to the 2021-22 season. The longest streak under Lloyd was the start of that 2021-22 season when Arizona won 11 straight to begin the year.
The Wildcats set the tone early and never trailed, shooting an efficient 66.7 percent from the field while building a 20-point halftime advantage. Arizona scored the game's first points and controlled the pace throughout, leading for 39:47 and stretching its lead to as many as 34 points in the second half.
Freshman Brayden Burries continued his impressive string of games for the Wildcats, leading Arizona with a game-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Motiejus Krivas added 15 points and seven rebounds, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 from the field while drawing consistent contact inside. Ivan Kharchenkov chipped in 11 points and five rebounds, and Arizona placed six players in double figures.
The Wildcats also dominated the paint, holding a 44-22 edge, and pushed the tempo for 26 fast-break points.
Jaden Bradley contributed 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, while Koa Peat added 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Abilene Christian was led by Cbo Newton's 17 points, but the Wildcats limited the visitors to 35.7 percent shooting and just six made 3-pointers.
Arizona carried a 51-31 lead into halftime and continued its offensive rhythm in the second half, shooting better than 68 percent after the break. The Wildcats connected on 30 of 45 shots overall and 78.9 percent from the free-throw line to secure the convincing victory in front of 13,092 fans.
Arizona will look to carry the momentum forward later this week against San Diego State at 8:30 pm MST on Saturday, December 20th, in Phoenix, AZ. This game will be aired live on ESPN 2.
