TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Softball's Kaiah Altmeyer was named the Big 12 Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday. Altmeyer is Arizona's first player to earn a Big 12 weekly honor.
 
During opening weekend, Altmeyer led the Wildcats to a 5-1 record at the Candrea Classic with a .667 batting average, five doubles, and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Altmeyer also led Arizona with seven walks and a .773 on-base percentage during the tournament. The right fielder from San Diego, California walked off then-No. 11 Alabama with a three-run double to secure the run-rule victory for Arizona and tie her career high of three RBI.
 
In addition to her walk-off heroics against the Crimson Tide, Altmeyer recorded a hit in all six of Arizona's games during the weekend. She recorded three hits in the opening game of the season against Michigan State and drew a career best three walks against Western Michigan.
 
After the first weekend, Altmeyer's batting average (.667), on-base percentage (.773), slugging percentage (1.000), doubles (5), and walks (7) leads the Big 12. She also ranked second in the conference with 10 hits.
 
Altmeyer and the Wildcats will host the Bear Down Fiesta at Hillenbrand Stadium this Thursday, February 13-Sunday, February 16. Arizona welcomes Cal State Fullerton, Ohio, and South Alabama for the tournament.
