TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 10 Men's Tennis continues to roll with a 4-0 sweep over No. 25 Pepperdine Sunday afternoon at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
The Wildcats kicked off their top-25 match-up with doubles play at noon. First to win was senior duo
Colton Smith and Inaki Cabrera-Bello with a 6-2 win over Edward and Hugh Winter. Arizona went down on court three, with
Zoran Ludoski and
Filip Gustafsson falling 3-6. The deciding point came down to court two, where junior duo
Eric Padgham and
Jay Friend were facing off against No. 51 Maxi Homberg and Linus Carlsson Halldin. The court went game for game to 4-4 before Friend and Padgham went up and secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win. The duo is now 6-0 in doubles play, leading the Cats.
Arizona lined up for singles play against the Waves up 1-0. All six Wildcats won their first sets, paving a path for the win. First to finish was sophomore
Alexander Rozin on the back courts, with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Pepperdine's David Fix. Next to finish was No. 5 Friend defeating the Waves only ranked singles player, No. 32 Homberg. After winning set one 6-4, Friend came back from a 2-5 deficit in the second, holding off Homberg for three set points to win 7-5. The junior remains undefeated in singles play at 6-0. Clinching the match for Arizona was freshman and 55 ranked Ludoski on court three with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win over Halldin.
The Wildcats, now 8-1, are on a three-match winning streak, with their next opportunity coming Friday, Feb. 21 against No. 9 San Diego 2:00 p.m. at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
