PROVO, Utah – No. 9 Arizona won the opening game of the series against BYU and
Devyn Netz threw a perfect game to secure the win on Thursday evening.
Netz tossed the 11th perfect game in program history and the first of her career to win her 12th game of the season. Her perfect game is the first conference perfect since Kenzie Fowler tossed a perfect game against Oregon State in 2010.
Arizona's offense scored eight runs on six hits led by
Miranda Stoddard and Netz who both homered in the win.
Anyssa Wild drove in three runs with a double.
Arizona took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Stoddard's 11th home run of the season. She blasted a two-run homer to centerfield to put the Cats on the board.
In the third, Arizona scored four runs to take a 6-0 lead over BYU.
Sydney Stewart drove in the first run of the inning with a single to the pitcher. Wild hit a bases-clearing double – her first career double – to drive in three more runs for the Cats.
The Cats plated two more in the fifth to extend their lead to 8-0 over the Cougars. Netz blasted her 11th home run of the season to – a two-run shot to left field.
