Cats Fall to Ole Miss in First Game on Saturday

TUCSON, Ariz. – 13-seed Arizona fell 10-8 to Ole Miss in the winner's bracket game on Saturday. The Wildcats will play in an elimination game on Saturday night.  
 
Arizona scored eight hits on 11 runs but left 10 runners on base. Kaiah Altmeyer, Dakota Kennedy, and Regan Shockey all tallied two hits for the Cats while Devyn Netz led the team with two RBI.
 
Ole Miss opened the game with four runs in the top of the first to take an early lead. A single up the middle allowed the first run to score after a pair of defensive errors. The other three runs came across on a three-run home run.
 
In the bottom of the first, Arizona answered with three runs to cut into Ole Miss' lead. Kennedy led off the inning with a triple and Shockey drove her in with a single up the middle. Netz hit a two-run home run – her 18th homer of the season – to bring in a pair for the Cats and make it 4-3.
 
The Rebels extended their lead in the second with a leadoff home run to make it a 5-3 game.
 
The Wildcats tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the third after plating two runs. Altmeyer drove in Sydney Stewart with a double to left field. Altmeyer advanced to third on a wild pitch and Emily Schepp had an RBI groundout to allow Altmeyer to score.
 
Arizona took the lead over Ole Miss in the fourth inning. Kennedy scored on a wild pitch to give the Cats their first lead of the game. Altmeyer singled to center field and Emma Kavanagh took advantage of a throwing error by Ole Miss to score Arizona's seventh run of the game.  
 
In the fifth, Ole Miss regained the lead after scoring four runs. A solo home run brought the first run across and a three-run homer gave the Rebels the 9-7 lead.
 
The Rebels extended their lead in the top of the seventh with a solo home run to take a 10-7 lead.
 
Saya Swain picked up the loss to fall to 3-4 on the season. She entered in relief in the fifth inning and gave up the three run home run. Devyn Netz pitched a total of five innings, allowing six earned runs on nine hits. Aissa Silva tossed 1.1 innings in relief and did not allow a hit or run to score. Miranda Stoddard entered the circle to face the final two Ole Miss batters and retired both.
