Pluta Earns ABCA West All-Region First Team Selection

OMAHA, Neb. — Arizona closer Tony Pluta has been selected to the ABCA/Rawlings West All-Region First Team, the organization announced today.
This marks the first All-Region honors of Pluta's career. As a member of the West Region First Team, Pluta is eligible for ABCA All-America honors, which will be announced this Friday, June 13.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Pluta, a junior, has put together one of the most dominant seasons of relief pitching in Arizona Baseball history. The right-hander has tallied an Arizona single-season record 14 saves, three wins, 34 strikeouts, and has limited opposing hitters to a paltry .183 batting average across his 28 appearances this year.
The Chicago area native was on the mound to secure Arizona's victory in the Big 12 Championship title game against TCU, the Wildcats Eugene Regional opening win over Cal Poly, and he sealed the program's ticket to the Men's College World Series with a save in the team's decisive game three win over North Carolina in the Chapel Hill Super Regional.
Pluta has also been honored this year as the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a member of the All-Big 12 Second Team, and as a CSC Academic All-District honoree.
He and the Wildcats will begin the Men's College World Series this Friday, June 13 with a matchup against Coastal Carolina. First pitch on ESPN is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. MST.
