TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Baseball reliever
Tony Pluta has been selected as a First Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association, the organization announced recently.
Pluta, the 2025 NCBWA Stopper of the Year, becomes the first Wildcat to earn First Team All-America honors from the ABCA since Donta' Williams and Jacob Berry in 2021, and the first pitcher to pull in First Team recognition since Tim Plodinec in 1968.
The junior right-handed authored one of the best seasons of relief pitching in program history this spring, tallying an Arizona single-season record 14 saves and holding opponents scoreless in 27-of-30 appearances. Across 37 innings Pluta struck out 34, issued only seven walks, allowed just three extra-base hits, and limited opposing hitters to a .219 batting average.
Pluta's 14 saves led the Big 12 Conference and ranked tied for the fourth most in the nation this season, while his 1.46 ERA was the lowest by a Wildcat with 20+ relief appearances since at least 1998.
The ABCA honors are added to an impressive list of accomplishments for Pluta this season, which include previous All-America nods from the NCBWA and Perfect Game, his selection as the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, picks to the All-Big 12 Second Team and the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team, and his second CSC Academic All-District selection.
