TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona reliever
Tony Pluta picked up more national recognition on Wednesday, as the College Baseball Foundation selected the Wildcat closer to their 2025 All-America team.
Today's selection marks the fifth All-America honor for Pluta this season; he is the second Wildcat all-time to earn All-America honors from the College Baseball Foundation, joining second baseman Cameron Cannon, who earned second team distinction from the organization in 2019.
Pluta, a junior right-hander, issued one of the greatest seasons of relief pitching in Arizona Baseball history in 2025. The Illinois native set the program's single-season record with 14 saves, a mark that led the Big 12 Conference and was tied for fourth most among all Division I players. Across 37 innings of work Pluta posted a 1.46 ERA and 0.95 WHIP, the former of which was the best ERA posted by a Wildcat with 20+ relief appearances during the StatCrew era (1998-current).
Over 30 appearances Pluta piled up three wins and 34 strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a stingy .219 batting average; nearly all contact against him was minimal, with only 3-of-28 hits against him going for extra bases. Pluta allowed runs in just 3-of-30 outings, while allowing more than one earned run just once.
Pluta, one of five relievers and one of four Big 12 players selected to the CBF All-America team, was a critical piece of the Wildcats success in 2025 and helped propel the team to their 19th Men's College World Series appearance in program history.
