TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona reliever
Tony Pluta has been selected as a First Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced this week.
Pluta becomes the first Wildcat to earn first team honors since outfielder Tanner O'Tremba in 2022, the 15th first team selection in program history, and the first Wildcat pitcher to garner first team recognition since Bob Chaulk in 1976.
The right-hander excelled both on the mound and in the classroom in 2025, posting one of the greatest seasons of relief pitching in program history while also earning a 3.91 GPA as an Aerospace Engineering major. The junior set an Arizona single-season record with 14 saves, held opponents off the scoreboard in 27-of-30 outings, and posted a 1.46 ERA that was the lowest by a Wildcat with 20+ relief appearances since at least 1998. Pluta limited opposing hitters to a .219 batting average and logged an impressive 0.95 WHIP.
In addition to his CSC First Team Academic All-America selection, Pluta was also a unanimous athletic All-American, the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and the NCBWA Stopper of the Year.
