TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona women's soccer secured a 1-0 victory over UC Irvine on Sunday morning at Murphy Field at Mulcahy Stadium, highlighted by a late game-winner and another shutout performance.
With the score still level in the final minutes, Kennedy Fletcher broke through in the 89th minute, heading home a cross from Lily Boydstun for the decisive goal. The finish marked Fletcher's first of the season, while Boydstun picked up the assist.
Goalkeeper Olivia Ramey anchored the Wildcats defensively with one save as Arizona limited UC Irvine to just three total shots and no corner kicks. The Wildcats generated 10 shots of their own and controlled possession down the stretch.
The result improved Arizona to 2-0-0 on the season, with both wins coming via clean sheets. The Wildcats return to action Thursday, Aug. 21, at New Mexico.
