Arizona Falls to Kansas 80-69 at Home

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona couldn't overcome an early deficit and fell to Kansas 80–69 on Monday night at McKale Center, despite a strong third-quarter push that briefly swung momentum.

The Wildcats (10-8, 1-6 Big 12) struggled to slow Kansas' efficient offense early, as the Jayhawks opened the game shooting 78.6 percent from the field in the first quarter and built a 27-21 lead. Arizona went cold in the second quarter, managing just 11 points, while Kansas extended its advantage to 44-32 at halftime behind balanced scoring and consistent ball movement.

Arizona responded with its best stretch after the break. The Wildcats outscored Kansas 23-15 in the third quarter, using defensive pressure and transition opportunities to cut into the deficit. Kamryn Kitchen sparked the run with perimeter shooting, while Sumayah Sugapong attacked the lane to keep Arizona within striking distance. A 12-0 run midway through the quarter brought the Wildcats within four, igniting the home crowd.

However, Kansas regained control in the fourth quarter, answering every Arizona push with timely baskets and trips to the free-throw line. The Jayhawks shot 11-of-16 from the stripe in the final period to maintain separation and close out the win.

Arizona was led by Kitchen, who scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including four three-pointers. Sugapong added 17 points and six rebounds, while Noelani Cornfield chipped in 12 points and 10 assists for a double-double. The Wildcats forced 19 Kansas turnovers and held a 14-4 edge in fast-break points but were unable to fully capitalize, committing 22 turnovers of their own.

Kansas shot 55.1 percent from the field and placed five players in double figures, led by Jaliya Davis' game-high 25 points. The loss marked Arizona's fourth straight conference defeat as the Wildcats continue searching for consistency in Big 12 play.

The Wildcats look to bounce back on Saturday, January 24th, in Ames against Iowa State. The game is at 2 pm MST and will be aired live on FS1.
