TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Volleyball head coach Charita Stubbs has announced that Ryan Ammerman has been hired as an assistant coach. Ammerman joins the staff at Arizona after three seasons at Maryland and will coach the pins for the Wildcats.
 
"We are thrilled to welcome Ryan to Arizona and complete our coaching staff," Stubbs said. "Ryan has played at the highest level for the United States Men's National Team and will bring a very high level of volleyball expertise to our staff and program. He comes from a family that was very involved in volleyball and will strengthen our player development with his knowledge and passion for the sport."
 
In his three years at Maryland, Ammerman used his experience from the international and club levels to improve the program culture and help the Terrapins to a pair of 14-plus win seasons.
 
Prior to Maryland, Ammerman was an assistant coach at UC Irvine from 2022-23 and helped lead the Anteaters to a record of 18-11 and an appearance in the Big West Tournament title match. He was also a volunteer assistant coach at Irvine during the 2013-14 season.
 
Ammerman played collegiately at Irvine from 2004-09 and led the Anteaters to a pair of NCAA Championships in 2007 and 2009. He earned AVCA first-team All-American, NCAA Most Outstanding Player, and first-team All-MPSF honors as a setter in 2009.
 
Following his playing career at Irvine, Ammerman played professionally in Spain, Sweden, Slovenia, Italy, Belgium, and Croatia in addition to being a member of the United States Men's National Team from 2010-15. He won the 2012 Pan Am Cup Championship with the USMNT.
 
Ammerman has spent time coaching at the club level in addition to his collegiate and international experience. He has spent time with Front Range Volleyball Club (FRVBC) and helped four teams earn bids to the USAV Junior National Championships. Ammerman also coached with Elevation Volleyball Club in Colorado and Balboa Bay Boys Volleyball Club in California.
