TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of Arizona baseball team fell to Arizona State, 10-4, in a midweek matchup on Tuesday night.
The Wildcats recorded eight hits and drew four walks, while the Sun Devils tallied 10 hits and six walks.
True freshmen Caleb Danzeisen and Cash Brennan each recorded two hits, and Roman Meyers launched his third home run of the season.
Collin McKinney took the loss on the mound for Arizona.
ASU's first three batters each reached base to begin the bottom of the first; however, McKinney got out of the jam while only allowing one run.
The Wildcats offense responded in the top of the second, as Meyers reached base via walk with one out. Danzeisen followed by lacing a ball through the right side of the field for a single and Meyers advanced to third. After a strikeout, Brennan recorded a two-out single to plate Meyers and tie the game at one run apiece.
Arizona State scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Andrew Cain led off the inning and drew a walk. Maddox Mihalakis then singled to right field to put two runners on. Meyers stepped up and crushed a pitch to deep left field that soared well over the wall, as he launched a 450-foot shot to score three runs and trim the deficit to 4-6.
Arizona was unable to score again and ASU tacked on four more runs, as the Sun Devils went on to earn the 10-4 victory over the Wildcats.
Arizona will hit the road again this weekend, as they are scheduled to open Big 12 play on Friday at 5 p.m. (MST) against Utah.
