TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 13 Arizona run-ruled Baylor, 10-2, in six innings to win the opening game of the series. The Wildcats improved to 25-8 (7-3 Big 12) with the win.
Arizona recorded 20 hits in the game – the first time the Wildcats have had 20 hits in a game since 2017 – and hit three home runs to take down the Bears.
Regan Shockey went 4-for-4 while
Addison Duke and
Sydney Stewart recorded three RBI each.
The Cats struck first on an RBI single from
Tayler Biehl in the first inning to open scoring for Arizona. In the top of the second, Baylor tied the game with a solo home run.
Stewart hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to give Arizona the lead and the Bears never caught up.
Kez Lucas hit a solo home run in the fourth to give Arizona a 3-1 lead – her fourth homer of the season.
The Bears scored one run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single before the Wildcats exploded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take an 8-2 lead. Stewart and
Grace Jenkins hit back-to-back home runs to bring in the first three runs of the inning. Duke hit a two-run double to round out the inning.
Arizona walked off Baylor in the sixth inning to win the first game 10-2.
Tele Jennings brought in the first run with an RBI single. Duke then brought in the winning run from second base with a double – her second of the game – to walk off the Bears.
Jalen Adams pitched a complete game to improve to 14-4. She tossed six innings and allowed just two runs to score on seven hits with three strikeouts.
