Arizona Women's Basketball Announces Staff Promotions

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Women's Basketball head coach Becky Burke announced promotions for two members of her staff on Tuesday, elevating Julie Hairgrove to Assistant Coach/Chief of Staff and James Ewing to Associate Coach.

Both Hairgrove and Ewing are entering their second season in Tucson after helping lay the foundation for Burke's first year leading the Wildcats program.

"Julie and James have both made a tremendous impact on our program since day one," said Burke. "Their commitment, leadership and daily investment in our student-athletes have been invaluable. These promotions reflect the trust we have in them and the important roles they will continue to play as we build this program."

Hairgrove will add Chief of Staff responsibilities to her role while continuing her work as an assistant coach. An Arizona women's basketball alumna, Hairgrove returned to Tucson after bringing decades of basketball experience at both the collegiate and professional levels, including time with the Phoenix Mercury organization. Since arriving in Tucson, she has played a key role in player development, recruiting and the overall culture of the program.

Ewing has been promoted to Associate Coach after serving as an assistant coach during the 2025-26 season. He has spent the last four seasons alongside Burke, including their time together prior to arriving in Tucson, and has played an integral role in helping establish the foundation of the program through player development, recruiting and scouting efforts.

The promotions are part of an offseason of growth for the Wildcats' staff heading into the 2026-27 season. Earlier this spring, Arizona announced the additions of Associate Head Coach Todd Starkey and Assistant Coach/Player Development Devan Newman.
