No. 21 Wildcats Dominate No. 12 Duke in Run-Rule Victory

DURHAM, N.C. – No. 21 Arizona took down No. 12 Duke in run-rule fashion, 10-1 in five innings, on the second day of the Durham Regional. The Wildcats advance to the Regional Final on Sunday.
 
Arizona scored 10 runs on eight hits and hit a pair of home runs to overcome the Blue Devils. Tele Jennings and Jenna Sniffen went yard for the Cats, both driving in three runs.  
 
Arizona plated two runs on a pair of Duke errors in the top of the first inning to strike first. Regan Shockey came home to score the first run of the game after Tayler Biehl reached on a throwing error. Biehl then scored from third base on another throwing error by the Duke defense to give the Cats an early 2-0 lead.
 
The Blue Devils stole home in the bottom of the third to make it 2-1. Arizona ended the bottom of the inning on a double play, the 43rd of the season for the Cats, to keep Duke's offense limited to just one run in the inning.
 
Arizona extended its lead to 4-1 in the top of the fourth. Jennings hit a two-run home run, her third of the season, to give the Cats a three-run lead over the Blue Devils.
 
In the top of the fifth, the Cats exploded for six runs to take a 10-1 lead over Duke. Biehl drove in the first run of the inning by drawing a bases-loaded walk and Grace Jenkins hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the second run. Jennings hit an RBI double to drive in her third run of the game. To round out the inning, Sniffen hit a three-run homer to extend Arizona's lead and put the Cats in run-rule territory.
 
In the circle, Jenae Berry picked up the win to improve to 4-1 on the season. She pitched 2.2 innings in relief and did not allow a hit or run to score. Jalen Adams started the game, going 2.1 innings and giving up just one run on two hits to Duke. She struck out two batters in the game.
