Record-Setting Day for Wildcats in Second Round of NCAA Marana Regional
05/19/2026 | Men's Golf
Arizona Men's Golf completed a historic second round of the NCAA Marana Regional on Tuesday at The Gallery Golf Club, taking a 10-stoke lead into Wednesday's final round after starting the day tied at the top of the leaderboard.
The Wildcats fired a record breaking round of 24-under par (264) as a team, which is the lowest 18-hole team score to par in Arizona history. Also, 24-under par is the second-lowest 18-hole team score in relation to par at an NCAA Regional since the NCAA started the regional format in 1989.
Leading the way for Arizona on Tuesday was senior Zach Pollo, who delivered a 9-under 63 in the second round. Pollo carded 10 birdies on the day, including a scorching 6-under stretch over his opening seven holes, to move to 9-under overall and in fourth individually. Pollo had a birdie putt on the 18th hole that would have made him the fifth Wildcat to shoot 62 in a tournament and just the second in program history to post 10-under par in a single round (Trevor Werbylo in 2019).
Filip Jakubcik and Taishi Moto each turned in rounds of 5-under on Tuesday. Jakubcik recorded a bogey-free round that include three bidires and an eagle. He sits at 10-under overall through two rounds and in third individually. Moto shook off a slow start, where he was 2-over par through his first eight holes, to play his final 11 holes in 7-under par, including a stretch of five birdies in a row. He had a total of eight birdies and is now tied for fifth individually.
Tianyi Xiong also contributed a 5-under round of 67 for the Wildcats, highlighted by six birdies in his final 12 holes, tying his low round of the season. Xiong climbed to 3-under overall heading into the final round. William Wistrand rounded out Arizona's lineup with a 1-under 71 and is 4-under overall entering Wednesday's final round.
Arizona is tied for the most birdies through 36 holes and has the least amount of bogeys out of any team. Zach Pollo and Taishi Moto have dominated the par 3's playing them 3-under which is best in the field. Filip Jakubcik and Pollo both have a par 4 scoring average of 3.75 which is second best amongst the field.
The top five teams after Wednesday's final round will advance to the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., starting June 29. The Wildcats will be looking to win an NCAA Regional for the eighth time in program history and the first time since 2022.
