LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Arizona baseball team dropped the series finale at No. 11 Kansas on Sunday afternoon, falling 11-5 to the Jayhawks at Hoglund Ballpark.
Arizona (16-30, 7-17 Big 12) recorded eight hits in the contest, while Kansas (37-11, 20-4 Big 12) finished with 13 hits.
Luc Fladda was charged with the loss after allowing eight runs on nine hits across 3.1 innings. Corey Kling worked 3.2 innings in relief and struck out two, while Garrett Hicks tossed a scoreless eighth inning.
Individually, Cash Brennan led the way offensively for the Wildcats, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Beau Sylvester added a 2-for-3 performance with a double and a walk, while Dom Rodriguez launched his first home run of the season. Caleb Danzeisen added an RBI single and Mathis Meurant went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs.
Arizona struck first in the top of the second inning after Brennan launched a two-run home run to right field to give the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage.
Kansas answered quickly with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-2 lead.
The Wildcats responded in the third as Sylvester recorded a two-out double, and Danzeisen followed with an RBI single to bring Sylvester home, trimming the deficit to 4-3.
Arizona added another run in the fourth after Meurant singled and eventually came around to score on a two-out RBI single from Nate Novitske, tying the game at four runs apiece..
The Jayhawks answered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend their advantage to 9-3, before tacking on two more runs in the seventh.
Rodriguez led off the eighth with a solo home run to left field for his first homer of the season.
The Wildcats were unable to complete the comeback effort as Kansas secured the 11-5 victory.
Arizona returns home on Wednesday to host New Mexico State at 6 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field.
