TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona Baseball program and Head Coach Chip Hale have announced the promotion of Garen Caulfield to the role of Director of Player Development and Recruiting.
Caulfield earned the promotion following one season on staff with the Wildcats in 2026 while serving as the program's Graduate Assistant Coach.
"Garen proved to be a valuable member of our coaching staff throughout the 2026 season, and we are excited to retain him in an expanded role," said Hale. "He was an exceptional player during his time at Arizona, and he has a tremendously bright future in this profession. Garen understands what it means to wear this uniform and represent Arizona Baseball, and I am confident that he is the right fit for this position. He will have a significant impact on the development of our student-athletes and the continued success of our program."
In his first season on staff with the Wildcats in 2026, Caulfield's primary responsibilities included working with the infielders, assisting with hitting development, and serving as Arizona's first base coach during games.
"Arizona Baseball helped shape me as a player and a person, and I am excited for the opportunity to give back to a program and group of people that means so much to me," said Caulfield. "As a staff member, my goal is to help build confident and resilient competitors who elevate those around them and leave this program better than they found it. I am proud to be a Wildcat, Bear Down!"
In addition to his previous responsibilities, Caulfield will assist the Arizona coaching staff with player acquisition and recruiting efforts in his new role.
Having spent four seasons as a student-athlete in the program and another year on staff, Caulfield brings a unique perspective and firsthand understanding of the Arizona Baseball experience to his new role.
Caulfield put together one of the most accomplished four-year careers in recent Arizona history while competing for the Wildcats from 2022-25. He ranks second in program history behind Chip Hale in games played, appearing in 231 contests across his four seasons with the Wildcats. Caulfield also ranks second in career at-bats (877) and sixth in sacrifice flies (17).
Caulfield helped lead the Wildcats to a Pac-12 Regular Season and Tournament Championship in 2024, as well as a Big 12 Tournament Title in 2025. Arizona reached the NCAA Tournament in each of his four seasons as a player, including a trip to the 2025 College World Series.
His career accolades include: 2025 Eugene Regional All-Tournament Team, 2025 Academic All-Big 12 Team, 2024 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, 2024 Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll, 2023 Cape Cod League All-Star (Wareham Gatemen), 2023 Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll, and 2022 Pac-12 All-Tournament Team.
