Biography

As a Senior (2019): Played the first 17 matches of the season (16 starts) before suffering a season-ending concussion for the second straight season … Prior to her injury, was having one of the best offensive seasons in the country … Was averaging 2.71 kills on .329 hitting during the first 58 sets of the season … At the time of her injury, Shelton’s .329 hitting percentage was second in the Pac-12 among players with at least 130 kills … Also averaged 0.66 blocks/set on the season … Had seven matches with 10-plus kills, including a career-high 15 vs. Utah (10/4) … Was named to both the Wildcat Classic and Cactus Classic All-Tournament Team, including a Most Valuable Player performance at the Wildcat Classic … Named to the Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll.
 
As a Junior (2018): Was enjoying a career season until a concussion ended her season prematurely … Appeared in all 12 nonconference matches, including nine starts as UA’s opposite hitter, before suffering a concussion in practice and missing all of Pac-12 and postseason play … Was a force at the net, both offensively and defensively … Finished fourth on the team, averaging 2.14 kills/set … Finished fourth on the team with a .289 hitting percentage … Finished second on the team, averaging 0.79 blocks/set … Had double-digit kills in three of the 12 matches she appeared in, including 12 apiece in back-to-back matches vs. Utah State (8/24) and Sacramento State (8/25) … Had five-plus blocks in two matches, including a career-high six vs. Utah State (8/24) … Set career highs in kills/set (2.14), hitting percentage (.289), digs/set (0.37), blocks/set (0.79) and points/set (2.56).
 
As a Sophomore (2017): Had a breakout season as UA’s starting opposite hitter … Appeared in 28 matches, including 20 starts, and 93 sets … Totaled 187 kills, third most on the team … Averaged 2.01 kills/set on .227 hitting … Was Arizona’s best blocking pin player (0.66 blocks/set) … Her 61 total blocks ranked second on the team … Named Pac-12 all-academic honorable mention … Posted seven matches with at least 10 kills, third most on the team, including a career high 16 on .324 hitting cs. Colorado (10/15) … Had four matches with five blocks, most recently at Utah (11/18) … Led Arizona in kills in four matches, blocks five matches and points twice.
 
As a Freshman (2016): Sat out the season due to injury.
 
Prep: A three-sport athlete at Desert High School in Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., where she earned four letters as a middle blocker and outside hitter under head coach Debbie Lewis … Had her jersey retired after a spectacular career … Named an Under Armour AVCA All-American as a senior … A CIF First-Teamer … Cited as Most Improved Player as a freshman … Helped lead team to a 28-3 season and a league title as a senior … Also led team to the Southern Section Division 5AA championship in basketball … In club ball, competed for Legacy in Santa Clarita and led team to the AAU Sapphire Division championship … Was her class’ valedictorian … Most Outstanding Student in history and art … Received Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglas Award of the University of Rochester as a junior … Received honorable mention at the Kern County Science Fair her senior year.
 
Personal: Daughter of Darrell and Laconger Shelton … Born August 7, 1998 in England … Has three sisters (Natasha, Ashley and Allison) …  Both of her parents played collegiate basketball – mom played at UNA and father played at Southwest Georgia … Is the first child in the family to play volleyball … In her free time, enjoys reading and watching cartoons … Will be majoring in neuroscience with hopes to become a cognitive neuroscientist or a molecular geneticist … Chose Arizona over Air Force, San Francisco and UC Riverside because “the campus is nice and I appreciated the family atmosphere.”
