TUCSON, Ariz.- Junior Sean Rierson was taken with San Diego's 50th and final pick of the 2003 Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft.
Rierson, a right-handed pitcher, finished the 2003 season 9-3 overall with 5.38 ERA in 103 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out 66 batters, while walking a team-low 19 batters in 18 appearances. Rierson garnered honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors.
A three-year starter for the Wildcats, Rierson is currently third all-time at Arizona in games started (50) and is seventh all-time in innings pitched (327). His 1.85 career walks per nine innings ranks as the second-lowest in school history.
