Caponi to Coach Safeties, Warsaw Added to Ops Staff

Matt Caponi has been promoted to safeties coach and Andrew Warsaw has been named operations assistant.

In his second season with the Wildcats, Matt Caponi serves as safeties assistant coach. He was a defensive graduate assistant at UA during the 2012 season after being hired by Rodriguez in December 2011. Prior to his arrival in Tucson, he was a graduate assistant at Pittsburgh in 2011 and was the defensive coordinator at Washington and Jefferson College for three seasons (2008-10).

He worked with the linebackers in 2010 and was in charge of the secondary from 2006-09 at W&J. During the 2008 season, the Presidents advanced to the NCAA National Quarterfinals. Caponi got his start in coaching in 2004 as a student assistant at his alma mater, Mount Union College, and was Mount Union's JV coordinator and linebackers coach in 2005.

Caponi was a team captain and starting safety at Mount Union, earning all-conference second-team honors as a senior in 2003. MUC went 55-1 during his four years including three Division III national titles. He earned a degree in physical education in 2005.
