Biography

2020-21 (Redshirt Junior Season)
In the starting lineup for the first 12 games of a season before sustaining a wrist injury against UCLA (1/9) that forced him to miss the remainder of the season … named Pac-12 Player of the Week on 12/14 … averaged 12.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and shot 34.3 percent from the 3-point line … had 21 assists to 12 turnovers … after scoring three points against Grambling (11/27) and nine points against Eastern Washington (12/5) to start the season, he exploded for a career-high 33 points in 29 minutes against Northern Arizona (12/7) … he was 7 of 9 from the 3-point line in the game and also added three steals … he was the first Wildcat since Deandre Ayton in 2018 to score 30 points in a game … the 33 points were also the most-ever by a player under head coach Sean Miller … the last time an Arizona player scored at least 33 points in a game was 2008 when Jerryd Bayless had 33 against Cal … the 7 3FGM were the most in a game by an Arizona player since Gabe York registered 7 against Oregon on March 11, 2016 … went for 15 points and three rebounds against CSU Bakersfield (12/9) … after an 11 point effort against UTEP (12/12), he went 8 of 13 from the 3-point line against Stanford in Santa Cruz (12/19) and finished with 29 points … the 8 3FGM were the most by an Arizona player since Gabe York made nine against Stanford in 2016 … he made 7 of his 8 3-pointers in the second half … had nine points and a career-high three blocked shots at Washington (12/31) … finished with six points and a career-high seven rebounds against Washington State (1/2) … elected to transfer to Fresno State following the season.

2019-20 (Sophomore Season)
Was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA prior to the start of the season… appeared in all 32 games, often serving as the first sub off the bench… finished 73 assists and just 23 turnovers on the year… his 3.2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio ranked ninth in the country among all players with at least 70 assists… it was the best ratio on the country among players that did not start a game during the season… had a streak of 153 consecutive minutes played without a turnover in the middle of Pac-12 play… in his debut at Arizona, he registered nine points and three assists against Northern Arizona (11/6)… scored in double figures for the first time against New Mexico State (11/17), dropping 16 points – including 4-of-6 from the 3-point line… in his first six games at Arizona, he posted 22 assists and just two turnovers… logged 11 points and a season high seven assists against Long Beach State (11/24)… knocked down three 3-point field goals for nine points against Omaha (12/11)… scored 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from distance at Oregon State (1/12)… hit the game-winning 3-pointer with less than a minute to go at Washington (1/30) on his way to a season-high 17 points and four assists… had nine points on a trio of triples against UCLA (2/8)… scored eight points and dished out five assists (0 turnovers) against Washington State (3/5)… closed the season with eight points and three assists against Washington (3/11) in the Pac-12 Tournament.

Prior to Arizona
Transferred to Arizona after two seasons at Kentucky … After redshirting due to injury in 2017-18, appeared in 28 games in 2018-19, totaling 64 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists and 13 3-pointers over 254 minutes … Was a key contributor in Kentucky’s Elite 8 run, including scoring a career-most eight points vs. Wofford in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament … Consensus top-100 and four-star prospect out of Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Menifee, California … Led Roosevelt to its first-ever state title … First name is pronounced "Jamal" ...
