Nick Mata was hired in May of 2019 to serve as the Arizona Volleyball and Arizona Beach Volleyball Director of Operations. Mata served as the volunteer assistant coach for head coach Dave Rubio and the indoor team in 2018.
A Tucson native, Mata graduated from Rincon High School in 2010 before earning his Bachelor's Degre in chemical engineering from the Universtiy of Arizona in the spring of 2015.
As a member of the University of Arizona Men's Club Volleyball team, Mata won two national championships with the program in 2011 and 2015. In 2015 he was named All-Tournament MVP at NCVF Nationals, as well as being named first team All-Mountain West Conference. Â
In his last year at Arizona, Nick was also involved in the University of Arizona Beach Volleyball program as a manager under head coach Steve Walker.
Upon graduating, Mata was named the head coach of the Arizona Women's Club Volleyball team. In 2016, he led the team to a fifth place finish at NCVF Nationals.
Mata began coaching as an assistant to the boy's and girl's volleyball teams at Rincon/University High School in 2012. He became the varsity coach of the girl’s program in 2014 and was named Region/Section Coach of the Year in 2015, 2016 and 2017 while leading the team to three straight Region/Section Titles.
Mata is also highly involved in the boy's volleyball and sand volleyball communities and has coached with APV boys volleyball, Desert Sand Volleyball Club, Zona Volleyball Club and as an assistant with CDO beach volleyball.
