Bruce Johnston

Bruce Johnston joined the Arizona athletic training staff in 2012, and serves as an assistant athletic trainer for softball and swimming and diving.

Johnston was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and grew up in New Wilmington, Pa. He attended Washburn University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education with an emphasis in athletic training. He then went on to Ohio University and graduation with a Masters in Physical Education with an emphasis in athletic training.

Prior working at Arizona, Johnston work at New Lexington High School and then Edgewood High School. In 2002 he moved to work at the University of Findlay where we worked as an athletic trainer for the women’s basketball, football and cheerleading teams. In 2007 he began working at University of Cincinnati as an athletic trainer for the volleyball, cross country and track and field teams.

Johnston’s desire to be an athletic trainer stemmed from an injury acquired while serving in the United States Army. His rehabilitation was done by an athletic trainer and he was impressed with his education and abilities. He then decided that he wanted to pursue a degree in athletic training after his time in the military.
