TUCSON, Ariz.- Sophomore Kim Glass recorded a three-game-match school
record 30 kills, as the Arizona volleyball team swept Oregon State 3-0 at
McKale Center on Friday. Game scores of Arizona's season-high-tying second
straight win were 30-24, 30-28, 30-27.
The Wildcats improved to 9-10 overall with the victory and finished the
first half of the Pac-10 season at 3-6. Oregon State slipped to 12-8 overall
and a half game behind Arizona in the conference standings at 2-6 with loss.
Glass, who accounted for exactly half of Arizona's 60 kills on Friday, was
nearly unstoppable en route to snapping her own three-game-match school
record of 28 kills set last December against UT Arlington in the first round
of the NCAA Tournament. She also finished with just eight errors on 53 swings for
a .415 hitting percentage and a match-best 14 digs to boot
Other standouts for Arizona included sophomore classmates Jennifer
Abernathy, who finished with 11 kills and two service aces, and Bre Ladd,
who tallied nine kills on .353 hitting.
However, the night belonged to Glass and her school record tying third
career 30-plus kill match, which also moved her into a tie for second on the
career 20-plus kills match list at 24 with former Wildcat Terry Lauchner.
Glass, who has played in just 51 matches in her career at Arizona, needs
just six more outings with 20 or more kills to tie Barb Bell's four-year
school record of 30.
Glass and the Wildcats will have little time to savor their first Pac-10
weekend sweep of the year, as they will depart for Hawaii on Saturday for a
meeting with the second-ranked Rainbow Wahine on Sunday. First serve for the
match in the Islands is set for 8 pm Tucson time.
