The No. 1 Arizona softball team (46-4, 15-1) defeated No. 15 Stanford (36-22, 5-12), 2-1, in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Cats scored in the third inning when junior Wendy Allen single to left field and senior Lovie Jung scored. The Cardinal tied the game in the fourth inning when catcher Jessica Allister lined out to left field and right fielder Katherine Hoffman scored from third.
Arizona went up for good when junior Erin Palomarez singled to right field and freshman Shelly Schultz scored from third.
Freshman Alicia Hollowell pitched seven innings and struck out eight batters on her way to her 31st victory of the season.
The Cats continue action tomorrow when it takes on Stanford at 1 p.m.
