TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Hassan Adams scored 20 points and Channing Frye had 18
points and 11 rebounds, helping No. 14 Arizona open a big lead and then
withstand an Oregon rally in a 90-66 victory on Sunday night.
Ivan Radenovic, a freshman from Serbia playing in his ninth college game,
had a season-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Arizona.
Andre Iguodala had 14 points for the Wildcats (13-3, 5-2 Pac-10) won their
third straight since a two-game skid knocked them out of the Top Ten.
Luke Jackson had 20 points, six rebounds and six assists for Oregon (9-5,
4-3), while Ian Crosswhite scored 11 points and Mitch Platt 10.
But the Ducks, the nation's top team in 3-point accuracy, were stymied by
Arizona's defense, hitting only five of 19 beyond the arc and committing 19
turnovers to the Wildcats' eight.
Arizona leads the nation in scoring and has hit 90 points in four straight
games, routing UCLA and Oregon State since losing at Southern California on
Jan. 15.
The Wildcats appeared on their way to another lopsided win after taking a
52-27 halftime lead as Radenovic scored 15 points.
But the Ducks, who had 13 turnovers to Arizona's one in the first half,
rallied with a 13-2 run early in the second half and closed within 67-53 on a
reverse layup by James Davis with 11:33 remaining.
Then Arizona got its transition game going and began taking safer shots -
Frye, Adams and Iguodala all had dunks in a spurt that Salim Stoudamire capped
with a fast break layup for a 79-57 lead with 7:28 left in the game.
Jackson had a three-point play and made a runner, pulling Oregon within
79-64 with 5:23 left, but Arizona responded again and put the game out of
reach.
Three of Oregon's first four field goals were 3-pointers, and the Ducks
pulled into a tie at 11 on a 3 by Brandon Lincoln 4:15 into the game.
But Radenovic had two 3-pointers, a layup and a three-point play during a
25-4 run over the next 8:08.
Arizona scored the last 18 points in a row - all but one on field goals -
and took a 36-15 lead on Mustafa Shakur's 12-foot pullup with 7:37 left in the
half.
